Hello, my name is Mike Bogdanski, and I'm a motivational speaker and member of the International Bullying Prevention Association. ... but first, I want to tell you an important story about my own experiences at the hands of a bully.

I Understand What Kids Go Through,
Because I Was A Victim Of Bullying, Too...

It's no coincidence that I've dedicated my life to helping children overcome the mental and emotional pain of bullying... You see, as a high school student, I was bullied, too! My bully's name was "Bub," and he moved into my neighborhood when I was a teenager, and turned my life into a living hell.

At first, the bullying and abuse were strictly verbal: name calling, insults, and angry rants. But over time, Bub's anger became more and more intense, until one day, it boiled over into physical violence.

I'll never forget the day he came at me with fists raised, and I ended up receiving the pumelling of my life. From that moment on, everything changed for me...

I became a prisoner. I was afraid to go outside... afraid to go to school... and even afraid to confide in my family, friends, or teachers.

And so I began the downward spiral of depression, isolation, and loss of self-esteem that all victims of bullying experience, and that so often lead to failing grades, drug or alcohol abuse, or worse.

But Luckily For Me, A Surprising Thing Happened
That Turned My Life Around - Before It Was Too Late

One day, I was flipping through the newspaper, when an ad caught my eye...

A local martial arts school was looking for new students, and holding an open house to showcase their school.

Of course, that was my answer! All I had to do was learn how to fight, and my days of being bullied would be over!

But when I arrived at the martial arts school and explained why I wanted to join, they told me they couldn't help me at all. The reason? Learning martial arts wasn't about fighting, it was about learning how NOT to fight!

They encouraged me to stick around and learn, though, and the rest, as they say, is history...

I was never bullied again, and today, I'm a martial arts master with a black belt, and 30 years of international competition experience.

And it's my martial arts training that makes me so successful as an anti-bullying teacher!

This is often a revelation for many children, who don't even realize that what they're doing is considered bullying.
  
  By helping students fully understand bullying behavior, I equip them with the greatest tool necessary for fighting it... knowledge!
  
  
• The Bully Triad-- There are three people involved in any bullying situation: the bully, the bullied, and the bystander, and in this part of the assembly, I discuss all three, clearly demonstrating that bullying isn't just "a normal part of growing up" as was previously thought, but something that has permanent, life-altering consequences.
  
  
• My H.E.R.O Program - H.E.R.O. stands for "Helping Everyone Respect Others," and this is the key to overcoming bullying in YOUR school!
  
  Using real life stories and personal examples drawn from my experiences in martial arts, I am able to empower the bystander, helping them to understand the responsibility they have to step in and stop bullying.
  
  I wrap up this section by teaching the H.E.R.O's three rules for stopping bullying.
